Visst, mycket av Freddie Gibbs musik är bara ett mer eller mindre kamouflerat återanvändande av de som har influerat honom – men ibland görs det så bra att man svårligen kan sluta lyssna.
Man måste älska när någon hyllar sin hemstad, även om detta är den bästa videon som Gangsta Gibbs har spelat in i Gary, Indiana, och detta utan tvekan är den bästa låten från Baby Face Killa.
Släpps nästa vecka, en version med DJ Drama, och en betalversion med bonusspår för iTunes, ett diskret att sätt säga det uppenbara: utanför en live-situation vill ingen vettig människa ha nån radiopersonlighet hojtandes över sina rap-sånger.

Freddie Gibbs with Madlib sounds like it could be a real snooze fest.
Their first song, Thuggin, was.
But second track, less Dilla- and more DITC-influenced Deep, comes off better.
Remember that as long as the production is tight, Gibbs always makes sure it’s another Gary, Indiana banger. When these dudes are at their best, both are pretty incredible… and them linking up to make quality music is a pretty great moment in rap history.
It’s snowing like it’ll never stop here in Sweden. Eternal winter is coming. The mental ice-age is upon us.
I’ll make my escape in a month, though, so I’m good. But until then, we have to adapt our listening to the seasonal changes. Here’s some music that fits better with the snow falling.

Music to plow snow to. They’ve thrown some grooves into this, and the sounds are clean, like a public washing machine. Experimental electronic music taken a bit beyond the glitches Pole started their career with.
Dopplereffekt – Calabi Yau Manifold
The perfect soundtrack for your polar expeditions, both for when pouring over complex scientific data and for boldly going where no man has gone before.
