Volvo keepin shit 240.. (Volvorap)

I Sverige har vi en kultur folk inte pratar om så ofta men som gör Sverige unikt. Det finns en fet bilkultur. De kanske inte är Candypaint och hydralik, men det finns ändå mycket människor med välbevarde bilar.
Rent subkulturellt ser de ju dock lite annorlunda ut, det är nog sällan de spelas G-Funk i dessa bilar.
Inget ont om raggare Brytburken.se har alltid sagt att det är bättre att vara raggare än hipster.

Sverige har alrdig producerat stora Cadillacs eller snabba italienska lyx bilar bortsett från Konigsegg men som inte kan jämnföras med mer “typiskt svenska” bilar som Saab och Volvo. Jag har aldrig varit ett stort fan av Saab men jag tycker att Volvo gjorde jävligt feta bilar back in the days.. Volvo Amazon är ju trots allt en svensk Cadillac medans Volvo 240 är mer av en Box Chevy.

Det var för några dagar sen upptäckte jag låten My Volvo av en slump nätet. Tankarna började genast fara runt i skallen på mig. Man har trots allt hört ordet Volvo nämnas mer än 1 gång inom hiphop.
GRYNCH som han tydligen kallar sig kommer ifrån Seattle. Detta är inte den typ av hiphop vi på burken i lyssnar på men vafan. Hes keepin it 240 mawfuckaz.

Volvo har helt fantastiska reklamfilmer som säkert mest visades i Usa. Ifrån denna Volvo Amazon reklam från 1963 så kom uttrycket “Drive your Volvo like you hate it! Men de gjordes mängder med bra reklamfilmer. Till exempel denna Volvo 240 Turbo reklam från 1983 eller denna Volvo 260 som också är helt underbar. Eller så kanske denna Volvo 140 reklam från 1967 faller er mer i smaken..

Att Sverige gav Usa The Bronx är de säker många som känner till , men visste ni att Volvo har en model som heter E 40? Att Volvo har släppt en model som heter E 40 kan ju bara ses som en hyllning till Herr Flamboyant.

Kanske var de någon på hos Volvo som hade lyssnat på Ghetto Celebrity med E-40 ft Suga-T och tänkte att nu när Charlie Hustle jämnför oss med Ferraris och Merceds så förtjänar han en hyllnings model. Men vad vet jag?

Man inser snabbt att listan kan bli ganska lång om jag ska lägga upp varenda låt där någon rappar om våran favorit bil. Men jag har samlat ihop några låtar med artister jag gillar. Ni får gärna fylla på om ni tycker jag har glömt något. Men även Texas hjälten Z-ro reppar Volvo.

Inom svensk rap kan jag bara komma på att Onda & Fejs från från Sthlm Inkasso och deras genialiska tape Volvomusik.

Jay-Z nämner Volvo i mer än en sång De verkar inte som att han alltid fuckar med Volvo men han verkar trivas i bilen till låten Oh My God.

@JuiceManeHugo från bloggen Bayonnaise och podcasten Vad Blir Det För Rap tipsade mig om att Trick Daddy hade en Volvo låt men de verkar snarare som han har en hel katalog av Volvo hits.

Ghostface nämner Volvo på Wu Tang Clan låten Cash Still Rules/Scary Hours . Vad Gucci Mane anser om Volvo är ju lite oklart men jag tror inte på att han cyklar.

Time for the city to bring back that whole aura, that soul rap music. Time for the penal system to free The Wavy One from his shackles. New York needs that. The planet needs that.

Hector Immortal Riley, also from Harlem, and who I know nothing else about, might not belong in that same discussion. But these two freestyles leave me fiending for more.

Paid In Full är en av de bästa raplåtarna of all time; en perfekt skriven text, ett tidlöst, själfullt, översmittsamt beat (enligt Cormega den heliga gralen inom rap, och hur kan jag säga emot?) – med tiden något bara mer och mer på Motown- och Beatles-nivå, alltså något monumentalt klassiskt och en av de få låtar – ärligt är dom inte många – från åttiotalet som kan mäta sig med dagens sound.

Och filmen var bättre än vad jag förväntade mig – med en Jay-Z i producentstolen (den stolen har väl dock oftast en försvinnande liten kreativ input; oftast handlar det väl snarast om att pröjsa för kalaset). Med Avon Barksdale i huvudrollen, en Sergio Tachini-draperad sidekick, Killa Cam som hänsynlös muscle med det välsmorda munlädret, Noreaga i en liten biroll, genomgående fantastisk musik – och kläder! – så lägger sig Paid In Full helt rätt i racet, och lyckas undvika både ofrivilliga low budget-pinsamheter och mainstreambakade moralkakor. Bland hood-filmer med rap-soundtrack placerar den sig bakom Fresh, New Jack City, Menace II Society, New Jersey Drive och Above The Rim, men en försvarlig bit framför pinsamheter som Juice och vad det nu var som Spike Lee döpte sina försök i genren till.

Trots att alla hela tiden ser förbannat superfly ut så smular storyns kallt logiska kugghjul obönhörligen sönder den förhärligande bilden av åttiotalets kokainkapitalism. Men författaren till det självbiografiska manuset hade sina invändningar:

“Azie met up with Dame Dash to get the story produced. His 189 page screenplay would have resulted in a 3 1/2 hour movie, so it needed some editing, but Azie felt it got watered down too much. He loved the acting but not the story.

‘The finished product made little reference to the social forces that push so many youth to sell and use drugs. My experiences in school and decision to drop out were not mentioned. There were no portrayal of corrupt law enforcement officials and how they cooperate with drug dealers and other criminals just to make a fast buck.’

In the book he talks about cops that would stop his car and take handfuls of money he had in the trunk and let him drive away with the drugs.

‘Paid in Full shows that I left the drug game after my shoooting, but fails to show how I changed my life. Instead of promoting my opinion that the drug game is over, Paid in Full encourages people to idolize the game and its star players.’”

Det här beatet försätter mig alltid i ett självreflekterande, sentimentalt läge, och både Z-Ros och Traes verser präglas från inledande till avslutande rad av den täta känslosamhet som endast verkligt mästerliga berättare är mäktiga.

När Trae säger “if you feel like I’m feeling go ahead and reach for the sky” känns en steg onekligen lättare, och när Ro berättar om sin vän som “aint around to watch junior grow up / but junior still in the window, waiting on daddy to show up“… det är ett knytnävesslag i hjärtat.

Pianoloopen är från Lonnie Liston Smiths A Garden Of Peace, som även Ski använde för Jay-Z:s Dead Presidents II. Pallar man med att nån stofil i början av bakom kulliserna-videon nedan utnämner Jigga till “the Proust of the projects” så är det värt att se hur denna en av hans absoluta bästa låtar kom till.

There are still legends living very comfortably as middle level rap stars, maintaining a following without ever compromising their artistic integrity (favorite examples: Cormega, Sean Price, Ill Bill), but the traditional rapper traditionally fits badly into this new paradigm of rap production. Lil B on the other hand – with a hundred Myspaces, almost the double in youtubes, 24 hours a day online, spreading viruslike – lives the Age Of Information like few others.

Based means being yourself. Not being scared of what people think about you. Not being afraid to do what you wanna do. Being positive. When I was younger, based was a negative term that meant like dopehead, or basehead. People used to make fun of me. They was like, “You’re based.” They’d use it as a negative. And what I did was turn that negative into a positive. I started embracing it like, “Yeah, I’m based.” I made it mine. I embedded it in my head. Based is positive.

There are few other artists out there that are so extreme in their passion and devotion to their sound. Sonically and lyrically he explores and goes where he wants to. I believe that everything B does, from the retarded “hoes suck my dick because i X like X” lines to the deep and introspective points of view on things like race, struggle, and growing up can be easily reconciled under this based existence. B and I are only 3 years apart, so to a point I can understand where he’s coming from in being young and aimless and trying to actively figure out your place in the world. Some days I wake up thinking deeply about the culture of the Internet as well. Sometimes I wake up and think about hoes sucking my dick.

Every man has two sides. The balance between them needs to be #based. A dualism as brilliantly explored in The Bible, I’m God and I’m The Devil as in Sabac Red’s underground classic Positive And Negative.

Look at 2pac as the young effeminate black panther and later as the leather clad super thug (or all the other 2pacs he gave to the world). When Jay-Z raps Never Change – is that like nothing happened between Hawaiian Sophie and Parking Lot Pimping and Empire State Of Mind? Cormega kept it #based when he said that “if dough change things I’m no longer the same / But what I became does not conflict with from where I came“. 2pac was so great, so mythical, because he displayed the different people in him. And everything he wrote was not based on his individual life. He wrote models of living, and was, like Malcolm X, the great story of how a person changes, going from nothing to something, taking the world as hostage.

Honesty is gold in the attention economy. That’s what makes Lil B a billionaire even when wearing dirty vans.

It’s not unrealistic to assume that Lil B:s repeated use of Bitch and Hoes On My Dick and Suck My Dick is a deconstructionist strategy of sorts. Like geeks do with geek and niggers do with nigger. Repetition changes meaning. Every copy gets a different character. In a retweeting of a female fan’s tweet I feel like I’m seeing a hidden agenda of subverting hiphop’s misogyny and homophobia:
